What’s Emotionally Driving Symptoms?
When we experience symptoms, our first instinct is often to make them go away. Whether it’s bloating, headaches, fatigue, anxiety, or skin flare ups.
Sometimes symptoms are more than a problem to solve, sometimes they're a message.
And while there is absolutely a time and place for testing, nutrition, and supplements (we are doing all of this with our clients), we also need to tune in to the deeper messages.
The body and mind are constantly communicating with one another. One of the biggest shifts that can happen in a healing journey is moving from how can I get rid of this symptom to what is my body trying to tell me.
Our bodies are highly intelligent.
Fatigue may be asking us to slow down. Anxiety may be highlighting a nervous system that no longer feels safe. Digestive symptoms may be revealing chronic stress, perfectionism, or a pace of life that leaves little room for rest and digestion.
The symptom isn't the enemy, it's information.
The Body Keeps Score
The experiences we have throughout life don't just live in our memories, the brain stores patterns, and the body stores responses.
Over time, chronic stress, unresolved emotions, people pleasing, perfectionism, fear, grief, and burnout can begin to influence how the body functions.
This doesn't mean emotions are causing every symptom, it means they may be contributing to the overall picture.
Just like nutrition matters, sleep matters, and gut health matters.
Your emotional health matters too. Shifting the way you view symptoms can be very transformative.
We encourage our clients to use symptoms as an invitation for deeper self reflection.
For example:
Digestive symptoms may invite us to explore what we're struggling to process or digest in life.
Chronic tension may point toward carrying responsibilities that no longer belong to us.
Fatigue may reveal a pattern of over giving without replenishment.
Skin symptoms may reflect a desire for stronger boundaries or protection.
Whether or not these interpretations resonate, they offer a different frame of reference that encourages curiosity instead of judgment.
